Oil Paintings by Tomas Panzarino

We recently took delivery of Tomas Panzarino's latest series of whimsical and fascinating oil paintings.  With the artworks we have sold and the paintings he has painted, I always wonder if his creativity will run out, and maybe I will get bored, but on the contrary, it just keeps getting better and better!  His vibrant and proprietary technique, combined with a southwestern theme, is perfect for our Sedona art galleries.

I am often asked how we arrive at the price for which we sell an oil painting.  It is a good question, and there are many variables.  The short and simple answer is that the artist has made their calculations based on many factors, and they establish the price.  That being said, in our galleries, we must confirm that the price is reasonable for the artist, the gallery, and the client that will purchase, or we dialogue with the artist to get there.

In Tomas's case, he is a hard-working artist.  He not only works diligently on each piece, but also on the number of pieces he will create each year.  This is, in a way, an interesting factor in the formula.  Tomas sells many paintings throughout the year as his unique artworks are in demand.  He also produces a good supply to meet the demand.  All factors considered, his average sale price is probably around $20,000 per piece, which is very fair for all three parties in a transaction.  This number will change dramatically if he slows down with his creative process and supply thins.  We will likely see a spike in his values as the demand for Panzarino's paintings is continually there year after year.

As Tomas and I have become friends, I have grown to appreciate not only his talent and skill but also his hard work and business acumen.  He is a good business partner and understands that the gallery also works hard to bring the artists' works to the world.

"I believe art is a delicate ecology in which the artist, gallery, and clients must be mindful of the well-being of the triad.  Each party should be taken care of and equally respected if we desire to continue to bring beautiful art into the world."

When I first spoke with Tomas, he told me, “All of my paintings are done by hand….no tools…they are all done on metal coated in nickel…exceptionally lightweight…. easy to handle. All done in oil enamels….11 steps to the process of each painting.” I have come to really appreciate the time and energy spent on each painting, as it shows in the final presentation of each piece that he creates.

Thomas, who goes by “Tomas,” is a self-taught, third-generation Italian American.  He spent his early years in New York and moved to California in 1968.  He has travelled extensively internationally, soaking up different cultures, which flavor his artwork.
