Sedona, AZ - When art gallery owner Brett Labit and his partners acquired Kuivato Glass Art Gallery, he never imagined how profoundly art would transform his life. Kuivato, one of Sedona’s oldest art galleries, was grappling with market shifts. Brett and his team set out to revitalize it, and he quickly became captivated not only by the art but also by Sedona’s vibrant community of artists and enthusiasts. Making community engagement a top priority, they turned Kuivato around, and within months, the gallery’s revenues soared. This success paved the way for the opening of other Creative Gateways locations in Arizona, in 2020.
But Brett had no idea what challenges lay ahead…
A New Challenge for Sedona Art Galleries
Launching a fine art gallery in a new city is daunting enough, but 2020 brought unprecedented hurdles. Creative Gateways’ planned Grand Opening for it's second location on April 1, 2020, in Scottsdale, AZ coincided with the COVID-19 global shutdown. As the pandemic disrupted everything, Brett and the Creative Gateways team fought to keep their business alive while supporting their local and global artists.
“Many artists depend on gallery sales to make a living. With our doors closed, it deeply impacted the well-being of the artists we represent. We were determined to support them through this unprecedented time,” says Brett Labit, Owner/Partner of Creative Gateways.
When Creative Gateways' newly minted location finally reopened, new challenges emerged. Regional unrest led to property damage, forcing another closure. For many businesses, these setbacks would have been fatal, but for Creative Gateways, they ignited a fierce determination to support Arizona's art community and its artists.
A New Beginning
Amid the uncertainty, Brett and his team have since doubled down, shuttering the doors on the galleryin Old Town Scottsdale, in favor of opening a new fine art gallery in Sedona, a global hub for fine art. Nestled among Sedona’s renowned art galleries, this new Creative Gateways location carries with it the rave reviews reputation that the successful short stint in Scottsdale arnered (and a 5.0-star rating on Google Maps). It proudly joined Sedona’s iconic First Friday Art Walk, a testament to its place in the community. The gallery’s survival—and eventual thriving—was fueled by its unwavering commitment to Sedona’s community.
Beyond hosting monthly art events open to all, Creative Gateways is developing an educational program to guide young artists in the business of creating and selling art. Known for showcasing some of Sedona’s most innovative and unique fine art, the gallery features artists like Tom Marosz, Shane Fero, Tomas Panzarino, and Eli Mazet.
Thanks to their resilience, deep community ties, and dedication to their artists, Creative Gateways has emerged as a premier fine art brand, celebrated in Sedona and beyond.
“This is just the start. We plan to open new galleries annually, and our model lets us uplift both the community and our artists. We offer some of the most distinctive art you’ll find—glass art, large wall pieces, animal sculptures, drinkware, lighting, paintings, jewelry, and more. With new pieces arriving regularly, there’s always something fresh to discover.”
