This blown glass vessel is part of the Abstract Collection and it measures approximately 13.5" tall, 8" wide, and 2.25 inches deep.
The Abstract Series was developed out of the Desert Blue Series. Steffen PlistermannI had started experimenting with Medallions, an adaptation of the Murrini technique. Murrini is made from multiple layers of color shaped into a rod and then, after cooling, cut into disks, which exposes the patterns of the cross-section. His Medallions start in the same way but instead of cutting them, he shapes them into disks while they're hot, which changes the patterns visibly after inserting the Medallions into the background colors.
In the Abstract Series, the disks will often look raised and inserted even though they are flattened into the existing mass of glass.
