White, Black and Red. Blown and Wheel Carved Glass. Line never ends!!! The artist uses the Swedish Overlay, the process of joining two separate bubbles of glass on separate blowpipes together and turning one inside out over the other. This process is used to bring an even layer of colored glass to or near the surface of the piece and thereby making it accessible to carve through the layers of colored glass after the piece has been annealed and cooled to room temperature. Abrasive wheels are used to grind into the glass and remove the material creating designs and exposing the layers of colored glass beneath the surface. Rougher grits are used first to remove most of the material and then followed up by finer grits to create smoother finishes. Various profile and dimension wheels are used to create different marks in the glass.
