Each month, the Creative Gateways studio chooses a theme to inspire our work and act as a focus for our events. Here’s what’s coming up in April…
“Earth without art is just ‘eh’”
This is the statement we’ve chosen as our theme for April – when we celebrate Earth Day, and when the spring season we began to welcome last month is in full bloom, reminding us of the wonder and beauty of the natural world around us.
Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement, when we began to grow our awareness of just how precious this planet is, and to join together to fight against threats to its survival. In the beautiful landscape of Sedona, amidst ancient rocks and a natural landscape buzzing with life, Creative Gateways’ artists are influenced and inspired by the world around us. This time of year feels like the perfect time to celebrate that beauty and take a stand for our responsibility towards it.
We see art as fundamental to life on earth. Art is in the colors of the blossom and the lines of the branches of the trees, in splashes of paint on the sidewalk and colors swirling in oil on tarmac. It’s also in our relationships, interactions, and significant experiences. It’s what we live and breathe daily; the inspiration that pulls us forward and the source of our greatest fulfillments and frustrations.
Art brings joy
It’s hard for us to imagine a life without art of some kind. Without color, design, and texture to make us smile and bring beauty into everything we do.
A big part of our vision at Creative Gateways is for art to be woven into the fabric of our lives: in our individual experiences, and as families and communities.
Our glass, ceramics and paintings are made to be incorporated into your day to day life. To brighten the walls of your home; to bring color, love and intention to the food you serve your loved ones or the coffee you drink in the morning; to spark joy when you catch sight of them in your workplace or your kitchen. Ceramic animals to make you smile when you catch them looking up at you; visions of the sacred and the spiritual appearing in vivid landscapes.
Art is not something to be hidden away in galleries, or to be taught how to look at. And artists don’t have to work behind closed doors either – our studio is always open, for you to come in, connect and see art as it’s made – with all the challenges, joys and unexpected twists it brings.
Celebrate art with us this April
We’ve got some exciting events coming up in April to celebrate art and the wonder of the natural world. On April 21st we’re teaming up with Gardens for Humanity for an Earth Day Gaia Gala to celebrate our environment and connect with those committed to preserving it for future generations. On 22nd April, Earth Day itself, the building will act as a gathering space for Sedona’s March on Science. Creative Gateways was also the starting point for the Women’s March on Washington in January 2016, and had a wonderful turnout of men, women and dogs who stood up for humanity. This time, they will stand up for the Earth! We’d love you to come celebrate with us. Check out our event calendar or our Facebook page for full details.
